Borderlands Save Editor (Revision 10)

This editor is no longer being updated and does not support newer Borderlands patches. It is highly recommended that you use WillowTree# instead.

Newer build of my Borderlands save editor, fixes the problem with editing Roland (Soldier) saves, as well as several other minor changes and fixes.

is this only for boarderlands on the pc? and if its not how do you do it on a xbox 360

  2. A Gay says:

Yes, this is PC only. Don’t buy loot lust games on a console if you want to edit your saves.

    • odotak says:

I find it actually easier to edit console games for xbox 360 simply use modio and a usb drive to get the files onto your computer. After playing around with several editors this one and willow tree are great to use and the easiest both are awsome.

      • what says:

I’m sure that makes sense in your head, but save editing through the PC is plenty easier, don’t fool yourself.

        • Super says:

Very constructive reply… it’s 6 and two 3’s really, though a PC game is already there for the editing, consoles games are becoming easier to modify as the days pass by, so he’s not all wrong, though modio is simply another tool a PC user could conjure up, save editing is general is always done on a computer of some sort, so it’s not really a case of it being easier on PC when there both done there to begin with ? i’m guessing you didn’t really think your sarcastic reply through, but hey i wouldn’t of expected much more from another of the many trolls on the net these days.

          • Kamikazi says:

its more like 00000110 and 00000011 & 00000011. You have to transfer date onto the usb, walk the usb drive from the xbox 360 to the computer, then save, transfer, edit, save, transfer, walk it back to the xbox, and finally transfer.

Where on a pc you save, edit, save.

Which one looks faster retard. You think sneaker net is the way of the future. You are a moron.

Oh, and the first save is to save a backup of your original save, so when you break it newb, that you can always have a fresh copy. Oh ya… idiot.

Go back to your perfect console system and use it to post on this internet forum dweeb, and while you’re at it change your diaper.

          • Douchebag says:

It’s actually more like scratching your head and scratching your ass. sure, it takes a bit more effort, but that’s what happens when your ass dictates your agenda.
The truth is, people who buy console games F**k all gamers everywhere, and shouldn’t be allowed to mod anything including save edits.
Unfortunately, Console Na**is forgot to super-duper-double-encrypt save files, so now Console dweebs are free to enjoy the fruits-of-labor by individuals who would have been unemployed if console f**ks got their way. Anyone who PLAYS a game on a console, that can also be obtained in a PC version, is a traitor to anyone who ever developed a software ever. People who legitimize the existence of non-standardized proprietary hardware, are selfish Infantile scums, and deserve to have their console bricked by their “Gods” for editing saves. But hey, It’s not that hard to edit save games on the 360 right? Kool!!

I’ve been into blogging for quite some time and this is definitely a effective and well written post. You should definitely check out the Xbox Stealth ebook on how to mod your 360 and burn an unlimited number of games for Free!

Anyways, good luck on your blog, and feel free to check out : Xbox Stealth

    Thanks so much!

    • Kamikazi says:

Good idea! Lets all steal our games so our favorite game companies all go broke and stop making cool titles, which we all love to hate so much. This will surely drive the price on newer video games down as well! Thanks for the honest post!

  4. jarno says:

i cannot find my save data for the pc

    • Kamikazi says:

its located in your “My Documents” folder. Or follow this path:
      C:\Documents and Settings\.\My Documents\My Games\Borderlands\SaveData\Save0001.sav
      Do not edit with notepad.

  5. John says:

    thank you!
i skipped to one of the dlc missions when i was only level10 and got stuck at a roadblock, which i got killed continuously because the respawn location is right next to the roadblock, and all the soldiers are like lvl45.

    John

    • Kamikazi says:

I did that too. I somehow managed to survive once long enough to make it back to my vehicle and gthoot.
Other wise you have to save & exit and load your game again.

  6. Jim says:

for some reason after i download this it keeps on messing up.like when its done downloading and i click on the client, once i click on the client it says run, i press run and then after that it says gibbed’s has stopped workoing

  7. Help says:

everytime i try to run the program, it says ‘borderlands save editor has stopped working’.
how do i fix this? please respond with help
    thx

    • l4dplayer923 says:

you need two are three of them to get it to work on will always work

      • Kamikazi says:

u mean 2 or 3 save files in the same folder?
Actually copying and pasting the same file 3 more times works when you edit them to fall into a series.
        eg.
        Save0001.sav
        Save0002.sav
        Save0003.sav
        Save0004.sav

  8. Joke says:

Hi excellent program but I dont need it for stats editing I only need it for storyline , cause I play with my friend coop and I want to be on his mission , is this any way possible? Thanks 😉

    • don't really care says:

get both your save game files and copy the section of his file relating to mission completion the will take time though. probably better to copy his save and use the editor to addall your items and such back to your character

  9. F4T4L says:

is there a way to set how many equipped weapon slots you have unlocked? I typed “suicide” in console, and my 4 weapon slots went back to 2. and I can’t see how to possibly fix this without editing my .sav file.

    • Kamikazi says:

Edit your save file. See you knew how the whole time.

Also you can edit the WillowGame.ini located at:
      C:\Documents and Settings\your name.computer name\My Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config

      [WillowGame.WillowInventoryManager]
      InventorySlotMax_Misc=12
      WeaponReadyMax=2

  10. ishimura iz clutch says:

dude this sucks. this is only for the pc. u should consider making a mod this easy for the xbox.

  11. Donkez says:

    ishimura iz cluctch@

    dl willow’s tree for that

    question for author :
could you please make level editor for weapons , thanks 😉

    • Kamikazi says:

It looks like the original game changed the item’s level automatically based on the stats of the item/weapon.
But now editing an item manually does not change the item’s level requirement but only the item’s color category.

If you downloaded content 3 then I don’t think this file editor is going to work correctly on the new save format.
I haven’t tried this program yet, because I haven’t seen a current post indicating fixes to apply to the new saves.
I have been hexing around in the save files and changed many values successfully.

But there is more to it now then there was before. Seems to have incorporated check sums now.

  12. ry says:

    does it work on ps3

  13. Simchy says:

Why cant u get to level 61?

    • Syn says:

Probably because he hasn’t worked it out for the General Knoxx Expansion yet. I know that if you set the experience to “9999999” and finish editing and then load it up the game instantly makes you level 61 without even having to gain 1 xp point. Then the next time you exit the game it will save you as level 61.

      • Kamikazi says:

I seen someone last week with a level 71 character, upon my stating that I thought the current level cap was 61, he left the game.
Up until that point he wanted to play with a bunch of level 16s, and his guy wasn’t any better than us.

        • don't really care says:

you can modify the level cap but its not recormended playing round with the files that control the cap as they set the base rules for the game to run

  14. MiniMike says:

So, whenever I try to run the program, it gives me a “The program failed to initialize properly”

  15. soldier4snipin says:

umm i need some help…. my character wont load on my ps3 anymore and i think its because of this program cuz i have the 1.30 patch and i accidentally opened my saved file in the program and yeah…. how can i fix it?

    • Kamikazi says:

I always make a back up copy of my save games before I shift numbers around in them. Just use your back up copy. lol.
Otherwise you could attempt to change the data back to what it was before, but it sure is hard to remember if it was a 1 or a 3, on 20 values.

  16. JustSayingHey says:

    @soldier4snin
I really hope that is a sarcastic comment. If you extracted your PS3 saves to PC and used a PC editor for console games without reading any post, or a read me, then you deserve to have saves wiped.

Thanks, Good proggy for BL saves. I like it.

  17. Kryix says:

Hi, I used this to change my backpack size from 45 to 100, when I load up borderlands and select my level 43 character, it starts it from scratch, so im back at level 1 with nothing done and the default backpack size.
any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    • Rick says:

Did you save to a new filename? You need to update the Save Slot number to the correct value if you did that.

      • Kryix says:

I saved it as birck, it was save0001, so when i change something do I just save it as the same name as the old unaltered file?, sorry im useless at things like this, hence why i havent touched willowtree.

        • Kryix says:

just changed it save0001 and remove the original to a backup folder just incase, but it works, thanks Rick your god send.

  18. SergeantShizzle says:

  21. Sankalp says:

Hi, I’m confused about how this program works. I was a level 25 hunter before I had format my hard drive. My biggest question are these.

    1) I started Borderlands from scratch and once again selected my Character to be the hunter Mordecai. At the new-u station I changed my name from “Mordecai” to “banyanbraid” once I started the game. I understand how to change values in your program, except in the new-u tab. what do I do here because I’m lost for this tab. Do I have have the same name in the new-u tab as I do on my saved profile in the game?

2)Once I save my settings on this program, how do I incorporate this save file into the game?

    Thanks

  22. person says:

    P.S. i got a ps3

  23. Monoblock. says:

hi, where or how do i get guns codes or addons?

  24. A Gamer says:

When I install your program, Kaspersky AV tells me that your program is trying to access my DNS cache, and trying to send UDP packets to a remote server.
Also, after trying to open a save file, Kaspersky AV tells me that your program is trying to change its’ security zone settings by editing my registry.
    Care to explain?
I’m sure there is a logical explanation, but programming is not my forte… (Am a hardware geek, not a software geek…)

    PS

I also get the UDP and DNS messages when installing Willowtree.

    • Kamikazi says:

Glad someone posted this crazy info.
This is why I hex, instead of downloading ready-made hacks. Just one trojan can open the door to many.
Good job on catching that btw.
I read that insta-hack creators were accessing updated values from a website online (maybe wiki files), on the fly.

But… What you describe doesn’t sound like a regular data pull from an internet site.
Accessing the DNS cache may be normal, as long as it is not changing it.
UDP is the cheapest packet to send across the net. And are used in most multiplayer games and zombie pc creation (bad).
Changing a security zone is way bad news, unauthorized for sure, and let alone at a point it shouldn’t have to get on the net.

  25. ... says:

Thanks so much! All I wanted to do was re-add 3 storage slots after I accidentally sold a SDU and this solved my problem.

  26. Dethcrow says:

Does this work on 1.3x patched games? My previously edited files no longer have the custom weapons I made before 1.3 and I want to put them back in. I miss my scoped Shep’s Elephant Gun that does 1600 damage =(

  27. brett says:

i tried editing a sniper rifle and upon loading into the game, i find out it has disappeared.

thank god for backups, but now i need to find something that actually works.

    • Kamikazi says:

      hex it.
You manipulated too much data and it ignored the weapon slot.
If you hex 1 character slot at a time, it can be changed, not drastically, but way more powerful same weapon.
      http://blmodding.wikidot.com/weapons

      • Kamikazi says:

Oh, and if while in game witnessing the gun is gone, if you change any values such as location or shoot 1 bullet, the game will save over your old save file, thus eliminating the weapon entirely. If you hex it and don’t change values when your weapon is gone, it is as simple as changing the data back to the previous settings to restore the weapon, without wiping out all the changes you made to the other items.

  28. AvoidTheSky says:

Hey. Sry for my bad english here..

But I used willowtree for my savefile, I forgot to make a backup so now Iam stuck… The savefile will not work after I changed the backpack size… Borderlands just turns off when I klicks at singel player, without the savefile borderlands works fine, when I use the savefile it says general protection fault. And I have tried to test this program, but how can you fix so you are at a certain quest? I was at new haven at the second playthrough level 45…. Someone help me? I think the version of willow tree was for 360, really dont know… If you can make a copy of my savefile so I is at the same quest as before, please tell me…

    Thanks Robin. 🙂

  31. ghöst says:

Anyone know how to edit the guns to level 61 and why do the pearl guns not register in here?

  32. JustSomeGuy says:

Wow man, this is GREAT. Only one little problem though. To fully max out the skill point board, you need 90 points to fill out all the main skills, 15 to fill out all 3 super skills at the bottom, and 1 more, the most important, to activate it. So this is my little gripe, I was hoping to get my Roland to have a fully maxed Scorpio turret, but with a max of 100 points in the editor when 106 is needed is a little turn down.

In the mean time, keep up the great work!

  33. beutz says:

Thaaaaaaaaank you so much for making this! I’m not actually using it for stats (honest!), I just needed a way to change the save slots so my two characters would stop overlapping each other (and erasing them! D: )

…Not to say I won’t try it out for the occasional bit of fun (like I totally am now with a character named “RAGEHAAAX!”, hehe), but nonetheless, thank you for saving me a crapton of stress. 😀

ive downloaded this editor and willow tree and both added a icon to my desktop. if i click on that or the exe file in the zip file they both crash and i get the microsoft report error window. do some of the files in the zip need to be extracted to some borderlands/etc file i havent seen mentioned anywhere? old man noob @ modding here.

    • Kamikazi says:

This is not actually modding, it is editing.
Modding is when you create a new modification to an old game that changes how the game is played, sometimes a little, most of the time drastically.

Save yourself a potential virus and hex edit the save file yourself.

  39. rashav says:

i tried to use this since i had a computer crash and wanted to rebuild my character to where he was but now it won’t let me load the character, do you know how to fix this?

  41. Insani says:

How do I use it? Whenever I edit my weapons, they don’t appear, and if I have it as my only weapon I have no weps.

To the people who want a console version, I’m pretty sure it’s harder to do it for consoles, grow up and become a real Gamer 😮

    • Kamikazi says:

The new save format in DLC3 of BL changes the way guns are accepted. If you put two different gun manufacturers on the same weapon, the game will not load the weapon. I also believe if you have sniper parts on a shotgun they “fixed” it so this is now not an allowed weapon.

lol, ya! And if you can’t hack-it hex-it!
